Learn how to apply a framework to evaluate expected errors versus atypical errors of your second language speakers. This training is geared for both monolingual and bilingual speech language pathologists.
We highlight typical speech development in bilinguals of English and Spanish, Hindi/Urdu, Arabic/Farsi, Mandarin/Cantonese, Tagolog, and Vietnamese. We will also discuss the similarities and differences in the sound systems of the languages with emphasis on how those differences are often reflected in the bilingual child. Evaluating expected errors versus atypical errors to make bilingual evaluations and goal writing easier.

This course addressed typical bilingual speech development across many languages. Participants identified appropriate goals for speech intervention for bilingual children and learned to recognize red flags for speech development in bilingual children.
