We had an amazing conversation with Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan leading up to her presentation for the January SLP Virtual Conference. We discussed our role is as SLPs with things related to referrals that include dyslexia and reading, addressing culture in our therapy, and supporting the reading goals of the classroom. We captured the best of it in 4 short videos.

Dr. Cárdenas-Hagan is a bilingual speech and language pathologist, a certified academic language therapist, and a qualified instructor. She is the President of Valley Speech Language and Learning Center in Brownsville, Texas and a Research Associate at the University of Houston, Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics. Elsa has spent the last 25 years working on national research projects funded by the National Institutes for Child Health and Human Development and the Institute for Education Sciences related to the oracy and literacy development of bilingual students.
