Now that we have arrived at a point where
we understand what dynamic assessment
is and why to use it, it’s important to know
how to use it the best way possible.
I know for myself, when I was first being
asked to evaluate students from diverse
backgrounds,, I was often on the fence
about whether or not to qualify a student,
because I wasn't sure if their difficulties
were due to a true language disorder or if
they were presenting as a second language
learner.
I went back to my grad school notes where
I had heard about dynamic assessment. I
knew that it was supposed to be helpful and
supposed to help me make a decision. But,
all we had done back then was cover it in
research articles so I didn't know how to go
about doing it.
So, here is what you need to think about in
order to include dynamic assessment in
your testing. We will talk about choosing
good targets, implementing the “Mediated
Learning Experience” or MLE, and judging
how well the student did so that we can
either write up goals or successfully explain

DYNAMIC To make sense of it, we will assume that
one of two things are true: Either you
completed standardized testing and are not

your findings. Or, perhaps you didn’t have a
standardized option and you are needing to
support your non-standardized findings.
