INTENTIONALITY

               Intentionality is telling the child the goal of what you are
               doing. It takes a lot of the bias out of testing because we are
               not making an assumption that the child knows what they
               are supposed to be doing or why we're asking them these
               questions.

               It also allows them to see what our goal is for the lesson
               and helps them to know the purpose of what they're
               supposed to be doing. So. if you were working on following
               directions, it could look like this;

               What is the goal of the lesson?

               Give a brief description of the purpose of the teaching. This
               could be as simple as, “We’re going to work on following
               directions that have 3 steps” or “We are going to work on
               using past tense verbs.”

               This seems very basic, but you’d be amazed at how often
               people dive into a lesson without the child knowing what
               they are working on.

               Simply check in with your student and say: ”What are we
               working on?” If they don’t know, tell them.

               Here’s an example of incorporating intentionality into a
               lesson.
