ASSESSMENTS THAT INCLUDE DA
YIELD MORE ACCURATE RESULTS
We love evidence-based practice, and there
is a lot of evidence that supports the use of
Dynamic Assessment. One important study
that addressed word learning abilities in
students from diverse backgrounds found that
more children were classified accurately as
having or not having language impairments
when standardized testing was followed by
DA than when it wasn’t (Peña, Iglesias and
Lidz, 2001). Similarly, another study found
that dynamic assessment improved
classification accuracy for bilingual school-
age children (Petersen et al, 2019).
The addition of a simple DA component
reduced the bias that was present in the
standardized tests.
