                            Cultural Considerations













                          “Multiculturalism is a system  of beliefs and  behaviors that


                          recognizes and respects the presence of all diverse groups


                          in an organization or society, acknowledges and values their

                          socio-cultural differences, and encourages and enables their


                          continued contribution within  an inclusive cultural context


                          which empowers all within the organization or society.”

                          Children  learn  best  when  they  feel  accepted  and  comfortable  in  their  respective

                   environments (Jenson, 2009).  As educators, we can foster learning by creating environments

                   in  which  individual  differences  are  celebrated.    The  rich  culture  in  the  United  States  can

       7           provide challenges for educators, who may need to alter lesson content, teaching approaches,

                   and styles of interaction to successfully impart their knowledge to their students.  For many

                   educators, the biggest difficulty lies in knowing when such adjustments are needed.  Often
