Find out what topic of the week is. 2 minutes
Aligning intervention themes with classroom topics increases
exposure and use of vocabulary. It also provides a
framework in which students can practice their new language
skills. Identify what is the current academic topic for the
week (E.g., oceans).
Go to the library and check out
10 minutes
books on the topic.
Using books to highlight a topic can empower students by
giving them experience with the topic prior to practicing the
skills that you are hoping for them to gain. Gather both
fiction and non-fiction books to provide vast numbers of
pictures, references, and situations.
Copy the activity pages for each student. 8 minutes
Communication growth is stimulated by carryover into the
classroom, vocabulary reviews, and shared participation by a
student’s teacher and parents. Use these friendly activities
and parent letters as your communication to strengthen your
team approach.
Cut/color/copy materials needed 10 minutes
for each session.
These sessions were designed for fast assembly and
distribution. Gather the materials listed at the beginning of
each session plan and make the minimal preparations. Better
yet, have your students gather and prepare their own or
materials and bolster their receptive communication!
