Ques on of the Day (10-15 minutes)

This ac vity should be completed the same way for every lesson to
increase the students’ familiarity with the rou ne. The ques on of the

day (QoD) is used to introduce the main topic of the lesson. The

prompts used during the ques on of the day ac vity will vary based on
the individual goals of the students. The QoD is usually a closed

ques on, for which the instructor provides two or three choices of possible responses. It can be

structured to allow students with different communica on abili es to respond in a way that they

can be successful. For example, if we were going to introduce the concept of pets, we would say,

“Today we are going to talk about pets. Pets are animals that we take care of and they live in our
home. The ques on of the day is, What is your favorite pet?” Underneath the ques on, we would

present possible answers; a picture of a dog, a picture of a cat, and a blank card. Children would

have the opportunity to answer non-verbally by placing their name under a picture choice,
verbally by labeling the card of their choice a er pu ng their name under it, or verbally by

providing their own answer and placing their name under the black card. Responses can be

targeted as imita ons, single words, phrases, or complete sentences, depending on each student’s

          communica on level.
