Song (5 minutes)

                           The song activity can be performed with one consistent song or
                           songs that vary across the theme.  If your group of students
                           requires more repetition, sing the same song for every lesson.
                           Songs about greetings, days of the week, or songs that have
                           gestures are great choices.  This activity is also a great break
                           between seated activities. You can encourage participation by using
                           hand signs and visual choices.  If a student chooses more than one
                           song, place the pictures on a board that says, “first, then.”

         Surprise Bag (10-15 minutes)

                           The purpose of the surprise bag is to introduce the theme and any
                           relevant vocabulary.  Allow the students to sit on the floor and
                           take turns pulling a surprise out of the surprise bag. Surprise
                           items vary according to theme. Each chapter includes picture
                           cards (section A of each chapter) that can be printed and cut apart
                           for quick lesson preparation. There are also suggestions for real
                           objects to be used with each theme.

                           The following is a sample script with suggested goals:
