TSHA 2020 Convention is HERE!

We are excited to be a part of the TSHA 2020 Convention.  We love to put names to faces so please say hi at our presentation and meet-up. As a gift to our community, use the code “TSHA2020” to receive a special discount on all of our books.  We hope to see you there!

This TSHA 2020 Convention will look differently than years past.  Based on the work we have been doing to support our SLP community, this past year has been overwhelming and hard for many of us.  As we continue to support our students, clients and families, we want to take the time to acknowledge the efforts of you all, the speech-language pathologists.  We are over-the-moon-excited to collaborate with Fort Worth Independent School District’s SLPs in this endeavor.  Come join our Bilinguistics/FWISD Meetup on Thursday, February 20th, from 11am-12pm at Booth #607.   Our Ellen Kester and Phuong Lien Palafox, alongside FWISD SLPs, look forward to spending time with you all.  It will be time for us to connect and inspire change for our school-based SLPs.  Let us take the time to talk about the Hard, honor the Work and build our collective Community.  Here is a glimpse of what we’ll share:

Then, following the Meetup, Bilinguistics’ Laura Finkel will be presenting on Language of Instruction for English Language Learners:  Considerations for Bilingual Assessment at 12:30pm-1:30pm in Hilton Grand Ballroom GJ. Learn about various outcomes for children from different bilingual education programs through case studies of bilingual children in one-way and two-way Dual Language programs, English-Only programs with English as a Second Language support, and early exit/late exit transitional bilingual education programs. This presentation will also discuss how to write about a child’s language history in order to help you interpret the results of formal and informal assessments. Once the evaluation process is completed, how do we support families in making tough decisions about their child’s educational placement and language of instruction considering available bilingual special education supports? Come to the session and find out.

See you there,

The Texas Speech Language Hearing Association Convention always gives us a chance to meet those of you we interact with online. Stop by our presentation and meet-up and say hello.  We will not have a booth in the exhibit hall BUT we will still offer our TSHA discount on products during the convention and for this week.

I’m incredibly excited for Laura’s presentation! I encourage everyone to hear what she has to say because language of instruction is such an important consideration when we are assessing bilingual students. Looking forward to seeing everyone at TSHA!
